Hewitt Robins has recently supplied a replacement screen to one of the UK’s oldest Gypsum mines. Birkshead Mine has produced Gypsum rock from underground room & pillar, drill & blast and mechanical cutting methods for over 200 years.
The mine had on old Pegson 14’ x 5’ Vibro-King Single Deck Scalping Screen that was in need of replacement. Hewitt Robins supplied a 1.6 x 4.8 Single Deck Low Angle Screen that was installed by Philford Design Engineers.
Due to space limitations, the screen had to be built up in the workshop and then dismantled so that it could be lowered down into the mine through the access tunnels. Hewitt Robins sent the screen flat packed to site and supervised the re-assembly.
This LPE-9 1.6 x 4.8 Single Deck Screen was designed to handle up to 300tph of -400mm Gypsum and the screen was scalping out at 50mm using heavy-duty decks. The +50mm feeds into a Hazemag crusher and the -50mm bypasses the crusher.
The screen came complete the vibrator united mounted above the screen for easy maintenance and better access. It also came with rubber wear liners with withstand impact and reduce noise levels. The screen also had vibration sensors fitted and complete screen dust encapsulation.
The screen was successfully re-assembled, installed and commissioned by Hewitt Robins engineers and the mine is now back up and running in a dust-free environment.
